about us
Started at Marin General Hospital in 2000, the Storks are a 100% volunteer group of mom “fun” raisers. We are Marin moms with young children who came together with a shared interest in giving back to our community and helping fellow Marin County mothers and their children. Our focus is on raising money and supporting the Hospital’s Lactation Center, a facility which is available to any nursing mother. (You do not have to be affiliated with the hospital, and fees are based on ability to pay.)
Fundraising events over the years have included family carnivals, restaurant fundraisers, music classes, Reader's Night Out at Book Passage, and holiday decoration sales. The Storks raise several thousand dollars annually.
"While being pregnant with my son, I always pictured myself breastfeeding him. Little did I know of the challenges I would encounter or about the monumental efforts I would have to make to get to that point where things would seem natural. Through weeks and weeks of struggle, the MGH Lactation Center and Chris Costello were there for me to help with everything from no milk supply to latching difficulties and painful nipples to monitoring my son's weight gain. As it turns out, breastfeeding is not always easy. One thing I am certain of: my son would have never enjoyed the immense benefits of mom's breast milk if it had not been for Chris and the rest of the gals at the Lactation Center." - Ani, Fairfax
"I love meeting like-minded Moms, gaining that warm feeling that I am helping women breastfeed their babies by helping to fund an invaluable resource at MGH” - Ingrid Ryan, Stork and mother of two, soon to be mother of three.
